Miss Effie Katsarma is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon. She sees patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as well as the Lister Hospital, Chelsea Outpatient Centre, and Sydney Street Outpatients and Diagnostic Centre.
After completing her medical degree at the Aristotle University of Medicine in Greece in 1989, she moved to the UK and began plastic surgery training at Mount Vernon Hospital. She then fulfilled further training at St Andrews Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, University College Hospital, as well as the Royal Free in London.
Miss Katsarma then undertook an 18-month clinical fellowship at the Christine Kleinert Institute in the USA after the completion of her training. There, she gained extensive experience with microsurgery and hand surgery. Whilst in the United States, she became a member of the USA Hand Transplant Team, assisting with and performing a second hand transplant in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2001 upon returning to England, she was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
Miss Katsarma is the Lead for Clinical Governance in Plastic Surgery and an Apppraiser at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She is involved with Teaching and is the Supervisor of the OSPIS course that is run on a biannual basis.
