Dr Helen Fidler has been a consultant gastroenterologist since 1998 and has overseen the substantial expansion of her gastroenterology department since then. She has a wealth of clinical experience and has a particular interest in investigating abdominal symptoms.
Her expertise covers a range of areas including:
Dr Fidler earned a first-class medical degree from Guy's Hospital in 1987 before training in centres of excellence in London, including University College Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. She has research interests in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the effect these conditions have on a patient's quality of life. Unusually, she has a particular interest in the anxious patient and has developed a multidisciplinary team to support patients who would benefit from a holistic approach to care.
Dr Fidler also has national roles and is an elected member of the BMA Council and Deputy Chair of the BMA UK Consultants Committee.
