Mr Kislaya Thakur is a Consultant Surgeon who covers many aspects of Breast conditions at BMI The Blackheath Hospital. He has an interest in breast cancer, gynaecomastia, problems with breastfeeding, breast lumps and inflammation etc. For greater patient awareness, he has set up a comprehensive screening service, involving a patient's family history and genetic risk factors for breast cancer. Apart from his experience as a Breast Surgeon, he also treats hernias, fissures, various lumps and bumps.
Mr Thakur qualified in Medicine in 1988(MBBS) from the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences. In 1992, he was awarded a Master's degree in Surgery (MS), with his Thesis on Major Trauma outcomes. Following this, he completed a three year Senior Residency programme in Surgical Oncology.
He moved to the UK in 1995 and undertook training at the Hedley Atkins Breast Unit at Guy's Hospital and at the HPB unit at King's College Hospital. He was appointed Consultant General Surgeon in 2003 and is the Lead for Breast Cancer for his Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). He is also the Clinical Director for Cancer in his NHS Trust.
As well as being a Breast Surgeon, he also has experience with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Furthermore, he has presented his work and research at a number of national and international conferences and provides training for undergraduate medical students from GKT Medical School, London.
