Dr Kwok Tang is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist appointed at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust since 2005. He qualified at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, and undertook comprehensive postgraduate training in gastroenterology and hepatology at prominent London institutions, including Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital, University College Hospital, and the Institute of Liver Studies at King's College Hospital.
Dr Tang also pursued subspecialty training in advanced endoscopy/colonoscopy and ERCP during his time as Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (1998-1999). Currently, he delivers a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic advanced endoscopy service and is Educational and Clinical Trainee Supervisor in general gastroenterology. He is also a JAG-accredited endoscopy trainer, CMT interviewer at the London Deanery, and an examiner for UCL/RFH Final MB.
Dr Tang was awarded a Wellcome Trust Fellowship, spending a further period of extended research studies at the Institute of Hepatology, University College London (2000-03), completing his MD thesis in hepatitis and liver disease immunopathogenesis. He has presented and published widely in this field. He developed Liver services at BCF Trust, introduced advanced liver fibrosis assessment, and set up a dedicated Hepatitis treatment clinic.
His areas of specialist interest include endoscopy/colonoscopy, liver disease, pancreatobiliary disorders, rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habit, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, abdominal pain and bloating, and diagnosis/screening for bowel cancer.
